Stroke

  • Recovering from a stroke can be one of the greatest challenges a person will ever go through.  However, research shows that early intervention and a specialized stroke rehabilitation program can help to optimize an individual's recovery and enhance their quality of life.

At SSM Health Rehabilitation Hospital’s Center for Stroke Rehabilitation, a team of neurological rehabilitation specialists provide early intervention with expertise in the treatment of stroke to help individuals return home to family, work and community activities.

    Our Approach

We provide a holistic and comprehensive program of medical, nursing, neuropsychology and therapy services to successfully address the individual needs of each stroke patient. Our program stands out from other general rehab programs by providing:

    • A minimum of 3 hours of therapy 5 days per week, with additional therapy offered on weekends
    • A formal patient and family education program which is offered weekly and addresses different topics specific to stroke recovery
    • Evidenced-based treatment interventions to address neuromuscular, cognitive, visual, language, sensory, emotional/behavioral and swallowing deficits commonly experienced by stroke patients
    • Opportunities as appropriate for community reintegration training, on-site home evaluations, and hands on family / care giver training to help patients prepare for discharge
