The therapy team at SSM Health Day Institute works closely with you, creating a treatment plan to help restore and build your confidence and independence. The team may also determine that use of specialized equipment may enhance your results.
Robotic tools, technologies and specialized equipment are available for use during treatment sessions at the SSM Health Day Institute and include, but are not limited to:
Alter G®
An anti-gravity treadmill that reduces the impact of physical activity on joints and allows patients to safely progress to full weight-bearing activities while improving mobility and strength
Balance Master®
A fixed force plate used to measure the force exerted through the patient’s feet to measure center of gravity position and body control. It also measures how well a patient's eyes, inner ear, muscles and joints are working together to maintain balance.
Bioness Integrated Therapy System (BITS)
A large touch screen digital display with programmed exercises to improve physical, visual, auditory and cognitive abilities of individuals with deficits in these areas.
Dynavision®
An interactive light board that improves the user’s peripheral perception and awareness, reaction time, hand-eye coordination, balance, cognitive processing ability, neuro-cognitive abilities, gross motor skills and functional mobility.
Hocoma Andago®
A robot-assisted tool used to perform gait and balance training in patients with walking or balance disabilities. The mobile robotic technology senses the patient’s movement and actively follows them, while also providing safe body weight support.
Hocoma Armeo®Spring
A robotic arm for the upper extremities, shoulder to fingers, that helps retrain self-initiated movement.
Vital Stim®
A non-invasive, external electrical stimulation therapy that uses specifically designed electrodes applied to the muscles of the throat to promote proper swallowing.

Most participants benefit from a five-day-a-week program, which includes both individual and group therapies in physical, occupational and speech therapy, and recreational rehabilitation.
Community reintegration is an important goal for patients, which is why our recreation therapy specialists work with you to practice daily living activities that help you better navigate real-world challenges. As patients advance with their daily living activities, community outings are scheduled allowing patients to further advance the skills needed for improved mobility and independent living.
